The Olive Nest, incorporating 1838 Wines, combines two sublime tastes located in the beautiful Mudgee Region of Australia.
The Mudgee Region with its hot days, cool summer nights and its cold winter is ideally situated for the production of high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). These conditions together with our red clay loam over limestone soil is also perfect for the production of high quality red wines.
A visit to The Olive Nest provides a unique experience, a chance to see how Olive Oil is produced together with tastings of our award winning oils and wines.

A total olive experience

Our Olive Oil is sourced on site from our 3,000 tree grove. We harvest our olives very carefully and in a way to ensure the fruit is not bruised, we then press the olives within 24 hours of harvest. This ensures the highest quality, fresh, tasty and herbaceous Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Our oil has been chosen by Harvey Nichols in London to showcase the best Australian Olive Oils.

Visitors to our tasting rooms are able to see the press in action (in pressing season), are shown how to taste olive oils and have the difference in Olive oils explained. A total Olive experience.

Our wines

We have one of the smallest commercial vineyards in Mudgee.  This lets us focus on producing high quality wines every year.

All our vines are bunch thinned to ensure our grapes are fully flavorsome and in optimal condition to produce the high quality wine that we demand. The soil type and climate in Mudgee lends itself best to the red wines which is our primary focus. Expanding this year with our first release of Pinot Gris.

Our wines are produced by the very talented Jacob Stein who began a fascinating winemaking journey with such reputable wineries as Blue Pyrenees, Lowe and Moss Wood. He also worked vintages in the Rheingau, Germany, which informed his philosophy on riesling, as well as in Piedmont and Canada. But Mudgee was always calling. Recently gaining the title of Gourmet Travellers Wine Magazine ‘Young Winemaker of the Year 2012’, one of the most prestigious and highly contested national awards in the wine industry.
